The latest buzz among car enthusiasts in India is the newly launched Volkwagen Polo GT TSi. It is going to be the first hot hatch in India. The Polo 1.2 is the top of the line petrol variant in the polo series and it has replaced the Polo 1.6. It has been launched at 7.99 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. That is very decent pricing by Volkswagen. Now, should you actually buy the Polo 1.2 GT? Thats a question that has been in my mind for quite some time. Lets find the answer.
Performance and efficiency
The Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSi features the famous TSi motor that has already been seen in the Indian market in some cars like the Superb, Passat, Laura Tsi etc. It has a maximum power output of 103 PS which is just a triffle less when compared to the Vento’s 105 PS power output. TSi stands for “Turbocharged Stratified injection”. In layman terms, it is a petrol engine which is mated to a Turbo charger. The power output, the torque, the mileage everything is improved with the addition of a turbo charger. This Engine is said to take the Polo GT from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds and a Top Speed of 190 kmph! Thats really quick! Also, they claim that the car would give +17 kmpl mileage. Now that is something that will lure many people who are obsessed with the question “Kitna deti hai?” into buying this car.
It features a 7 Speed Automatic DSG Gearbox! Such an advanced gearbox has never been seen in a hatchback in India ever before. Now that 7.99 Lakh price point seems less, doesn’t it?! The DSG gearbox is famous for its refinement and sophisticated technology. Automatic gearboxes are generally ignored by the Indian audience, as they are famous for reducing the fuel efficiency. But this DSG does very little harm to the mileage and hence the company is claiming such high figures.
Should you buy it?
Well, if you wanted a hatchback with automatic transmission this is the one for you. If you want a car that is different than the regular cars on the roads, then again you should get this. But if you are looking out for a car that is fast and furious, you’d be better off waiting for the Fiat Punto ABARTH that is due for launch.
